A very attractive Derby plate, dating to c1810, decorated with aqua enamel dots around the rim, together with hand painted pink roses in cloud shaped reserves.  There are further roses to the centre of the plate.  A service in this pattern was made for the Thynne family - an aristocratic English family headed by the Marquis of Bath of Longleat House.

The Thynne family descends from the soldier and courtier Sir John Thynne (died 1580), who constructed Longleat House between 1567 and 1579.

The plate measures 8 inches in diameter and is in good condition for its age.  There are no chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  There is substantial loss to the gilt dentil rim and some rubbing to the enamels of the roses in the well of the plate.  Marked with Derby factory mark in red, and with gilder's number 18 at the footrim for John Moscrop.
