The most fabulous Derby porcelain soup plate made for the Duke of Northumberland, c1790.

This was one of only 20 soup plates which the Duke ordered to add to his existing dinner service, and the only pieces of the service which were decorated by Derby's premier artist, William Billingsley - all other items of the service having been decorated by Edward Withers.

The roses are simply breathtaking!  Add to these Derby's beautiful celeste ground around the rim featuring Peacock Eye enamelling and gilding with cloud shaped gilt reserves and further roses - results in one of Derby's richest patterns.  Please note the tooling of the gilding around the roses to give a striking effect.

The soup plate is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, hairlines, crazing or loss of gilding.  Fully backstamped Derby's factory mark in puce of crown, crossed batons, dots and D.

One of only 20 in the world!
