A rare Isleworth octagonal plate of dark inky blue ground, featuring lakeside scenes of houses, pine trees, willows and birds in fan shaped reserves, alternating with circular reserves of lotus sprigs.  The central reserve with a church, together with round spire, birds and rock formation.  Mock Chinese mark to base and with very shallow footrim, seen on some Isleworth wares.

Measures approximately 7.25 inches diameter, and in very good condition with only one or two minor firing flaws.  Dates to c1765-70.

Please note:  Pieces of this pattern and type have previously been attributed to Bow.  More recent studies have shown that these are actually from Isleworth, Middlesex, whose wares are only now being properly attributed. The body is of bone-ash, similar to Bow.  Patterns bear resemblance to both Bow and to Worcester, as the founders of the Isleworth factory both were previously employed at Worcester.  The four fan shaped reserves have an interesting "3-dot" rock formation, which is seen in the Worcester pattern known as the "Cannonball Pattern" derived from an earlier "3-dot painter" at the Lund's Bristol factory.  The glaze is also quite different.
